How many diaper bags do you need for twins?
In my opinion, twins only need one diaper bag for any outing. However, sometimes you can adjust your diaper bag based on the situation. For example, a smaller bag will do for a day out at the mall, but you’ll need to upgrade when it comes time to go on vacation or travel.
When I was pumping, I would keep a separate bag for all of my pumping gear and bottles, and I kept my main large diaper bag filled and ready to go with everything else I would need to head out.
What makes a great diaper bag for twins?
Before we get into some of the great diaper bags that would be perfect for you as a mom-to-be of twins, let’s go through some of the most important features you’re going to want to have in a bag.
Size
The first thing on the list is, of course, size! When it comes to twins, you need all the space that you can get! So make sure that the bag you choose is large enough to carry everything you need.
Comfort
Trying to juggle two babies while also carrying a heavy diaper bag will make you feel like the weight of your world has just doubled! So it’s essential that your diaper bag itself doesn’t weigh too much and that it has padded shoulder straps.
You’re going to put your diaper bag (and your shoulders) through its paces – so make sure it’s comfortable!
A good choice would be one with straps on both shoulders or an adjustable strap for carrying over just one shoulder if needed.
The fabric needs to be durable but also soft against your skin and padded.
Lots of storage compartments or pockets
Every inch counts, and if your diaper bag doesn’t offer enough pockets and compartments, then you will spend your life searching through the mounds of extra clothes, toys, and burp cloths, trying to find what you need.
The best diaper bag for twins will have a great variety of internal and exterior pockets and compartments to fit everything you will need for both you and your babies. A zippered pocket for your things is also a great addition.
A good thing to look for would be an insulated bottle pocket or two (or three) so that there are always two bottles ready for snack time!
Stroller Compatibility
It’s super convenient if your diaper bag comes with detachable stroller straps. That way, you don’t have to carry your diaper bag and push your massive twin stroller.
A style to suit your lifestyle
You will have two babies, so having two hands available will be pretty important! Many twin moms love using a backpack-style diaper bag as they leave you with both hands free to look after those gorgeous babies of yours. They are also more likely to have integrated stroller clips and plenty of storage space for bottles, diapers, food, and a water bottle space for you.
What features should you look for in a twin diaper bag?
You’ll want to look for a twin diaper bag that has:
- ample storage compartments (so there’s enough room for all that baby gear)
- lots of pockets, including zippered pockets, in which you can tuck away smaller items such as pacifiers, tissues, not to mention your things such as cellphone, lipgloss purse, etc.
- enough insulated pockets for bottles. You will want to look for spaces for two, or even better, four bottles, so you have the flexibility to get out of the house for more extended periods
- adjustable straps, so you can find the most comfortable carrying position for when you’re on the go with twins
- multi-use straps – having both backpack style, over the shoulder, and carry handles are super helpful, especially if you are also planning to use a twin baby carrier.
- stroller attachments so you can hang it from your double stroller handle
- a changing pad for diaper changes on the go
- easy to keep clean with a wipeable fabric
- lightweight, so it isn’t a hassle to carry around while you take care of two infants
What goes in a diaper bag for twins?
It can be tempting to try to pack too many or unnecessary items in your diaper bag.
Remember, you have to carry everything with you, and while it’s better to be prepared and have more than you need, it’s also important to travel light.
One of the questions most people ask is how many diapers should they pack? Many factors go into answering this question – the number of hours you plan on being out with your twins, where will you change them if soiled or wet? Do you have enough for both babies?
We recommend packing six diapers per baby. That way, if one baby needs more or has several accidents, you can switch them out with a new diaper without worrying about running out too quickly. We also advise all parents to carry extra wipes.
It is also advisable to bring an extra set of clothes with you for when your babies are too comfortable playing on the ground or enjoying that picnic lunch. You never know when they will decide its bath time! Don’t forget some sunscreen and hats. Most twins love being outside together- it’s the perfect time for a photoshoot, so remember the camera, Mom!
I hope these reviews helped narrow down which diaper bag for twins best suits you and your new twin-themed lifestyle.
It’s important to remember that you don’t need a diaper bag for each baby – two babies and two packs would be just too much to manage, mama.
Your needs will change as your twins grow, so try opting for a diaper bag that will last the distance as it will get a lot of use. You are best to pay a little extra for a quality product so it will last the three or so years you will use it.
Make sure to look for a durable, lightweight diaper bag with plenty of compartments and enough insulated bottle compartments, so everything has its place and remains organized.
