I often get asked what twin baby gear items would be on my shopping list if I were to find myself pregnant with twins again.
My twins are now well past the baby phase (eek!), and many of the products that are available on the market today were not around back when I was shopping for my girls.
Being pregnant as a first-time mama of twins can be extremely overwhelming. There are so many products on offer now.
It’s no wonder you feel confused mama.
So that question got me thinking…
Hindsight is a beautiful thing – especially when it comes to twins!
So, now that I have the benefit of hindsight, having gone through the newborn phase with my two, what products would be on my shopping list if I were to be pregnant with twins again?
I have picked out my all-time favorite twin products that helped me during those hazy days with newborn twins and thought I would share them with you xx
I have broken my list of 14 twin baby gear items down into four sections as there are 4 key areas that you need to focus on during those first six months.
All newborn twins do is sleep, eat and need cuddles, right?
- Sleep
- Feeding
- Nurturing
- Getting out of the house
So let’s get started…
Twin Sleep
1. Simmons Bassinet for Twins
I REALLY wanted to have my girls in a twin bassinet or co-sleeper next to my bed when they were really little.
International guidelines are to have newborn babies in your room with you for at least the first six months of life.
So, as a nervous first-time mama, that’s what I wanted to do.
I knew that sleep would be difficult to come by once my twins were at home, so I was open to anything that would make it easier to care for them.
Having your twins sleep right next to your bed at night will make it much easier for you to get some semblance of rest yourself during those first few months.
Night feeds become much easier. And if you keep your diapers and supplies next to you, then you and your partner won’t even need to get out of bed!
You will also find that your twins are more settled. They will be much easier to put back to sleep after a feed as you are right next to them and can give them a gentle pat or sing them a soothing song to help get them back to sleep.
Other twin mom favorite twin bassinets include the Baby Trend Lil Snooze Deluxe for Twins and the Baby Trend Nursery Center for Twins.
2. Baby Shusher – The Sleep Miracle
Sleep becomes a distant memory when you have newborn twins. That thing you used to do before you had babies.
You will want to try EVERYTHING to get those beautiful babies to sleep so you can also grab some shut-eye before the whole change, feed, and sleep cycle begins again.
Whoever came up with the idea of white noise to help babies sleep is an absolute GENIUS.
A white noise machine was the very first item I purchased when I discovered I was having twins.
Knowing that I was going to be caring for these newborn twins on my own made me very conscious of the fact that sleep (or lack of it) was going to be my biggest enemy. I needed to do anything I could to help my babies settle to sleep quickly.
I purchased the Homedics White Noise Machine, which was awesome, and I used it consistently for at least a year with my girls.
It was then super handy if they were going through wakeful times if fireworks were around or we went away.
It just cancels everything else out if you have it loud enough.
I have since discovered this amazing little product called the Baby Shusher – The Sleep Miracle.
There were many a night where I would find myself trying to settle a particularly wakeful/fractious child and would repeatedly shhh shhh shhh them while either patting them or cuddling them to sleep.
There is something about that shhh shhh shhh noise that calms and comforts babies. So, if I were to find myself with newborn twins again (heaven forbid) the Miracle Baby Shusher would be right at the top of my list.
Feeding Twins
3. Twin Z Pillow
There is a reason that this awesome twin breastfeeding pillow is one of the most popular with twin mamas.
It is more than just a nursing pillow for twins. And even if you are NOT planning to breastfeed your twins, then I would still highly recommend you add it to your list of twin baby things to buy.
Firstly, the Twin Z is, of course, wonderful for tandem-feeding twins, and it has made a huge difference in the breastfeeding journeys of thousands of twin mamas.
It is also great for tandem bottle feeding. You can have them lie on the pillow on either side of you while you wear it, or someone else can feed them with the pillow in front of them on the floor or couch—easy.
You can also use the Twin Z as a super comfy place for your twins to hang out after a feed, when you are bathing one of the twins, or while changing one of the twins.
I lovingly call it a portable docking station for twins 😉
One thing that you are constantly thinking about when you have newborn twins is ‘what do I do with the other one’ when you are changing one, cuddling one, or bathing one. It’s perfect for those times when there is only one of you to look after both babies.

4. Medela Pump in Style Double Electric Breast Pump
If you are planning to breastfeed your twins, then it pays to invest in a good quality breast pump. While in hospital you will most likely be using the Medela Symphony. And while you can hire these pumps to use at home for a few months, the cost of hiring can quickly add up.
You may also find that you want to use it for longer than a couple of months, particularly if your babies are premature or you are exclusively pumping and bottle-feeding your twins.
The Medela Pump in Style is a well-loved brand with twin mamas and would be a no-brainer for longer-term pumping.
If you want to go down the hands-free pumping route, which helps you to save so much time Momcozy offer a hospital grade hands free pumping option.

5. Baby Brezza Formula Pro Advanced
This Baby Brezza product is like a Nespresso machine for twins (without the caffeine)!!
Imagine if you could prepare both of your babies’ bottles—from start to finish—measured, mixed, and warmed in less than two minutes—with just the press of a button.
Would that rock your world?
It DEFINITELY would have rocked mine when I had two hungry babies at 3 a.m. waiting for me to prepare their bottles – it’s really not pretty.
Need I say more? Other than that, you owe it to yourself to add one of these to your Twin Baby Register or Twin Baby Gear shopping list.
6. Twin Daily Journal
Your first few precious months managing newborn twins can seem quite exciting, overwhelming, and amazing.
You will be getting to know your two babies and learning how to be a mama of twins—it’s a HUGE task, and there is so much to remember and learn.
Throw in a good dose of sleep deprivation and the chances of you remembering which twin had/did what during the day is practically ZERO.
It is hard enough to keep track of one baby’s feeding and sleeping habits and health issues, let alone TWO, and yet you are expected to update your midwife/GP/Pediatrician at each visit with how your babies are tracking.
That’s where a Twin Daily Journal comes in.
You can keep track of all the little things that happen in each of your twins’ days, and it helps to look back over a few days to see if schedules or feeding sessions need changing or tweaking.
It also gives you something wonderful to look back on when your babies are older.

7. Baby Bouncers
Baby bouncers are like a second pair of hands for twin mamas, especially during the first few months when the babies are too young to play on a baby mat.
They are one of those items that are nice to have if you have one baby. But with twins they are essential.
Once your twins arrive, you will always need to think about where you are going to put the second baby while you feed, change, diaper, and bathe the other one.
Baby bouncers or seats are a wonderful way to keep your babies safe and entertained while you prepare bottles, feed/change one of the babies, or fold the washing, as they can see you.
They also help with really spilly babies as they are kept slightly upright after feeds, and can help with reflux.
I had two for my girls, which also had little toys they could look at. They also played music and vibrated, so they were wonderful for settling them in the afternoons if they were getting a bit grumpy or if they were finding it hard to sleep in their beds that day.
It also meant that if I was giving a top-up bottle to one of my girls, the other one could be at my feet in the bouncer and I could still be interacting with her by talking or singing.
You really do become the ultimate multi-tasker as a twin mama!
Nurturing Twins
8. Weego Twin Baby Carrier
What I wouldn’t give to be able to go back in time and have known about the Weego Twin Carrier when my girls were newborns.
This twin carrier would have made SUCH a difference to my first six months as a new mama with twins.
Caring for newborn twins is not easy and it will feel like you spend a lot of time comforting and settling them. That’s why it makes sense to ‘wear’ your twins as much as possible during the first few months.
And the benefits of babywearing are well researched.
Not only can it help with bonding, which can often be more difficult when you have two babies to care for, but it can also help you get out and about more easily in those first few months, which can greatly help with your mental health. Super important, mama.

Getting out with Twins
9. Maxi Cosi Mico Infant Seats with Bases
Putting your twins into Infant seats instead of fixed car seats to start with will give you a whole new level of flexibility when you go out and about.
I used the Maxi Cosi infant seats with my girls and had a base for each of them.
In my blog post Setting up a Twin Travel System, I talk about the importance of setting yourself up with a twin ‘travel system’ where everything fits in together and creates a system that will adapt and grow as your babies do.
I loved the Maxi Cosi infant seats because they are among the lightest on the market. When you have two babies to carry, you want the Infant seat to be as light as possible while still providing ultimate protection and safety.
I also highly recommend purchasing bases for your infant seats. It will make a huge difference to the time it takes to get in and out of the car.
You have to remember, that while you are putting one baby into the car, you also have to keep the other baby safe.
Having bases makes it super quick to click the capsule into the base, rather than worrying about seatbelts and ensuring they are secure.
10. Twin Stroller – Mountain Buggy Nano Duo
A twin stroller will be the most important and probably most expensive item on your twin baby gear shopping list. Before purchasing, it will pay to shop around and spend some time thinking about how, when, and where you will use your stroller.
There seems to be a huge divide between twin parents who love side-by-side strollers and those parents who love inline strollers.
I am firmly placed in the side-by-side twin stroller camp.
You will find you will use your tandem stroller for MUCH longer than you would for a singleton, so you need to ensure that there will be enough legroom for your twin toddlers.
I could also see future potential arguments over who was going to sit in the front and who was going to sit in the back of an inline stroller. Minimize the risk mama – you will be the one to have to play referee and remember whose turn it is to sit in the front…. believe me – your brain will be full enough with other things to have to add this to the list.
I used a Mountain Buggy Duet with my girls, which I loved. However, if I had my time over, I would look at the Mountain Buggy Nano Duo as it is more lightweight than the duet.
The great thing about the Mountain Buggy Twin Strollers is that they have been designed with the same frame width as a single stroller, so you can fit anywhere you would with a single stroller.
The benefit of the Nano is that it is much lighter (only 20 pounds), so it is easier to get in and out of the car and also easier to maneuver.
11. MiniMonkey Twin Baby Carrier
This carrier only launched a few years ago, so it wasn’t around when my girls were little. I LOVE the idea of being able to see both babies and for them to be within kissable distance.
I would definitely recommend the MiniMonkey Twin for once your twins have outgrown the Weego Twin Carrier, so at around 5 to 6 months of age.
Carting two babies around is tough going – especially on days when you have errands to run, shopping to do, or friends/playgroups to visit.
There are just times you will want to carry them rather than lug your gigantic twin stroller around, especially for quick visits.
Having a twin carrier such as the MiniMonkey will make it so much easier on you. Believe me.
12. Twin Diaper Bag – JJ Cole Caprice
Having a diaper bag is a pretty essential item when you have one baby. But with twins, it becomes even more essential.
You will have so much stuff to carry around, especially in the early days when you want to be prepared for anything.
Double the diapers, double the clothing changes, wipes, bottles…. the list is endless.
You need a bag large enough to carry all the essentials. And in an ideal world, it would also come with attachments to fit your twin stroller.
I know many twin parents swear by using a backpack which leaves their hands free. But as I also used my diaper bag to carry my purse, phone, and car keys, I didn’t like the thought of carrying those items on my back out of sight.
I used the JJ Cole Caprice diaper bag with my girls and loved it. It had all the room I needed, with lots of pockets, and two bottle holders.
If I were to have twins again today, I would either go with the JJ Cole Caprice again or the Lekebaby Large Diaper tote, both of which have adaptors to hang on to a twin stroller and multiple strap options for carrying.

13. Cloth Diapers
I know it seems odd to add it to a top 14 list of things to buy with twins, but hear me out.
When I say cloth diapers, I mean those old-style cotton diapers that our parents would have used as diapers – before disposables became a thing. The large squares of white brushed cotton.
These things can be used for so many things. In fact, I still have some in my cupboard and use them occasionally – even now.
- Burp Cloths
- Swaddles
- A cover for your changing mat
- Under your babies’ heads to protect sheets
- A floor mat
- Shade cloth over their infant seat
The list of uses is endless. So do yourself a favor and add a couple of packs to your shopping list. I would love to hear in the comments what uses you found for them. 🙂
14. Large Size Play Mat
And last, but certainly not least… I would definitely get a large size playmat that will fit both of your babies on it.
Once your babies are a bit more aware of their surroundings and can stay awake for a little longer between feeds, then having a playmat for them to lie on is essential.
Not only is it another change of scenery for them and some form of entertainment. But watching your twins start to interact with each other on their mat is the most special thing in the world.
You will want to look for a mat that has two areas of play, or two overhanging bars so that they each have a place to look at things. I had the Fisher-Price Deluxe Gym for my girls. But I would also look at the Peanutshell 7 in 1 activity center as it is also a generous 33.5 x 33.5 inches – so big enough to cater for twins.
Or if wooden is more your style, then these wooden play gyms will fit two babies easily.
So that’s my list of the top 14 essential things to add to your shopping list for twins.
